No pain no gain at Preston Guild City Games!
by Shane Friend for Stone Create
Initially the point of taking part in Preston Guild City Games for us as a company was about securing new business.
We heard about the 2014 Games via SHOUT Network and the more we understood about it the keener we were to become involved.
We sponsored the golf day which was held at Ashton & Lea Golf Club, and we were blessed with a glorious sunny day.
It was extremely well organised and great fun.
It became clear that the heart of Preston Guild City Games is really about building relationships with people and the promise of new work became secondary.
I particularly liked the golf because I didn’t get injured, unlike the rounders…
The rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit at UCLan and our team were motivated and ready to have some fun. Go team Stone!
We got to the semi-finals in the rounders but unfortunately after slogging the ball, my knee gave way sprinting to first base.
I ended up being stretchered off and whisked away in an ambulance, but don’t let that stop YOU!
The medical services were second to none at UCLan.
The pain of my injury was softened when I realised that Jimmy Khan (Preston City Council) had been knocked out at rounders and was in another ambulance and also on his way to the hospital!
We established new friendships and ironically my injury became a great talking point and we ended up gaining lots of new business as a result of Preston Guild City Games.
