Preston Caribbean Carnival King And Queen Competition

2015 Preston Caribbean Carnival King and Queen Competition

The date has been announced for the competition to crown the Preston Caribbean Carnival King and Queen.

The family friendly event will be held on Preston Flag Market on Saturday the 13th June at 12.30pm.

Each year, the Preston Caribbean Carnival procession is led by one King and one Queen who have won the prestigious title for the most amazing costumes of the year.

The main Carnival procession, held on the 21st June, will be made up of a number of individual bands. Each band who is involved in the Carnival will put forward one King and one Queen into the competition to showcase their costumes in a dazzling display of dance and music.

The individual bands choose a theme each year and are expected to have knowledge of Carnival and how their costumes relate to the theme. They will also dance and entertain the crowd in a bid to impress the judges and be crowned the 2015 King and Queen.

Last year the winning costumes were a dramatic cobra that was crowned King and a magnificent dragon/ serpent who won the Queen title. Thanks to funds from the Arts Council and others, the Preston Caribbean Carnival always strives to be bigger, better and more extravagant than the year before.

The Preston Caribbean Carnival is the biggest party Preston will see this year and expects 15,000 visitors to join in the fun. Celebrating the flamboyant, creative Caribbean culture within our city, it is a great free day out for all.
