Trio HSK

“One of the most exciting young ensembles to have emerged in the last year” - BBC Jazz on 3

Trio HSK is pianist Richard Harrold, 8-string guitarist Ant Law and drummer Richard Kass.

Their compositions draw from contemporary classical music, jazz, hip-hop, breakcore, metal and the music of the Americas, making their language rhythmically and harmonically dense. They deal with musical ambiguities, in particular ‘actual versus perceived rhythm’, deriving unique improvisational frameworks. Among their influences they cite Pierre Boulez, Franco Donatoni, Iannis Xenaxis, Meshuggah, Venetian Snares, Nerve, Dillinger Escape Plan and Robert Glasper.

The trio is set to collaborate with Corey Henry of Snarky Puppy at this year's Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival.

“One of the grooviest, hippest young bands in the city…rhythmically and melodically a great combination of subtlety and strength” - Kevin Le Gendre

“A rocking, urgent musical kaleidoscope. Their compositions are highly evolved … they’re at the top of the class when it comes to stringent application of a demanding but rewarding style.” -Rob Adams, Herald Scotland

“Quality is present in abundance” – 4 stars **** - Bruce Lindsay, All About Jazz
