Four actors, four bicycles and a two thousand mile adventure.
After two hugely successful tours in 2013 and 2014, the four-strong, all-male HandleBards company are back on their bikes and cycling the UK before setting out across Europe. On just four bicycles they will carry all the necessary set, props, costumes and camping equipment to perform one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays – Hamlet.
The HandleBards do Shakespeare differently – performing with eight very sore legs, and using their bikes to power various surprises and contraptions on stage, whilst playing ALL the parts between them.
If you are new to the Handlebards, see a little clip of their 2014 and the endorsement from Sir Ian McKellen no less! via www.peculius.com/handlebards.html
Outdoor performance notes
You are welcome to bring a picnic and low-backed chairs, rugs or cushions to sit on. Please dress for the weather and avoid umbrellas as they can block the sound and other people’s view. In adverse weather we reserve the right to cancel the performance. No refunds will be provided in these or any other circumstances.
At Hoghton Tower we will do all that we can to make our guests feel welcome and comfortable. However, due to the historic nature of the venue there are some areas which can be difficult to access in a wheelchair or for those with other mobility difficulties.
