Connecting skilled local makers, local people, and local venues...

Make Do Drink are a new collaborative platform and workshop series, connecting skilled local makers with relaxed settings and casual cocktails, creating engaging experiences with style and flair in Preston City Centre.

The aim of Make Do Drink is to bring local makers together with local people and local venues, giving them the opportunity to get involved in fun workshops right on their doorstep. And all with a drink in hand!

The platform is a collaboration itself between two Preston locals, Nicola Darwen and Helen Brady. Nicola is an experienced freelance Graphic Designer who has worked with some of the world’s leading brands including British Airways, Coca-Cola and Cunard. Helen has over 10 years event management experience working on a huge variety of projects across the country.

Helen explained, ‘We have both grown up in Preston, moved away, and are now back living in Preston City Centre. Having had the choice of events and activities that bigger cities can offer, we want to help bring a slice of that to our doorstep. You shouldn’t have to get on a train to find something a little quirky or different. Preston is on the up, we have seen the change creeping in over the past 2 or 3 years; there are more bars, more restaurants, more choice than ever before. We want to link up these great venues, with great makers, to deliver great events.’

Running events and workshops can be a big undertaking for freelance makers or part-time creatives but collaborating with an experienced team takes the pressure off and enables smaller businesses to share their passion. And the timing could not be better; latest reports show that public spending in the ‘Experience Economy’ is increasing year on year and that many businesses are gearing up for the busiest ‘summer of experience’ yet.

Nicola expanded, ‘It is well reported that consumers are spending more and more on experiences and activities. People like getting out there with friends and family and doing something – Make Do Drink is all about that! We are taking inspiration from the bigger cities around us like Manchester and Liverpool and bringing these influences back to our own City Centre’
