Soak up some culture at these upcoming exhibitions...

Preston has it all going on this summer, with plenty exhibitions to check out from June through to August.

With all exhibitions free to attend, there's even more reason to get out and about and see what the city's galleries and museums have to offer.

Blood, Sweat and Celluloid - Lancashire Infantry Museum

Tuesday 28 May - Saturday 2 November, Free

Blood, Sweat and Celluloid is a must-visit exhibition for history fans and those with an interest in the military. Admire the army photography, dating from 1850 all the way to present day, alongside footage of D-Day preparations and helmet-cam footage from Afghanistan.

This exhibition is open 10am-3pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Photo ID is required for entry and parking is also free.

Virtual Terrains - The Birley Artist Studios

Every Saturday in June, Free

Virtual Terrains is a solo show by Emily Trowell, exploring the human desire to imagine, inhabit and explore alternative worlds. Emily's work combines natural objects, tactile materials and digital video game environments, inviting you to reconsider the boundaries of 'real' and 'virtual' terrains.

This exhibition is open 12pm-3pm during every Saturday in June.

Leyland Artists - South Ribble Museum & Exhibition Centre

Tuesday 11 June - Tuesday 16 July, Free

Leyland Artists are a small group who produce a diverse range of artwork. From rapid sketches to elaborate portraiture, their artwork in this exhibition covers many subjects and mediums. Don't miss out on admiring some local talent.

This exhibition is open Tuesdays and Fridays 10am-4pm, Thursdays 1pm-4pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm.

Fashion Degree Show - PR1 Gallery

Friday 14 June, Free

UCLan's Fashion Degree Show will showcase student work from their courses for Fashion Design, Fashion Promotion and Textiles. The exhibition will include conceptual fashion collections, promotional campaigns, handmade textile design and fashion or lifestyle image styling.

This exhibition is open between 9am-6pm.

Photography Degree Show - PR1 Gallery

Friday 14 June, 9am-6pm, Free

UCLan's Photography Degree Show features a mix of contemporary photographic work from the university's students. The exhibition captures a snapshot of work, both innovative and artistic in approach, from a talented group of visual practitioners.

This exhibition is open between 9am-6pm.

Fearsome Craftsmen - The Harris

Saturday 15 June - Monday 26 August, Free

Fearsome Craftsmen explores the complex objects created by Vikings and invites you to discover how Viking artisans turned the materials around them into stunning items of cultural significance. The exhibition will also feature the Silverdale Hoard and a replica Viking house.

This exhibition is open 11am-5pm Monday, 10am-5pm Tuesday-Saturday and 11am-4pm Sunday.

Grow Me a Home - PR1 Gallery

Thursday 27 June - Friday 12 July, Free

Grow Me a Home questions the relationship between humans and the built environment. The thought-provoking and interactive exhibition explores the questions: 'Could we grow our own homes?', 'How do we want to live?' and 'Could we not do this differently?'

This exhibition is open between 9am-6pm.

Pleasure Prom PR1 Gallery

Tuesday 16 July - Friday 26 July, Free

Pleasure Prom explore architectural spaces along the regenerated seafront areas in Blackpool. Artists' interpretations of Blackpool Promenade are brought to life with sound, sculpture, moving image and photography; asking the question 'How do we experience this unique space?'

This exhibition is open between 9am-6pm.
