Stanley Villa Farm: glamping on the plain west of Preston

The only entry of its kind here, and the answer to 'glamping Preston'.

Stanley Villa Farm provides glamping and camping west of Preston, on the Fylde side of the city. It is the only entry of this kind in the directory, which is itself informative: the camping trade around Preston is thin compared with the Lakes or Bowland proper.

The flat ground west of the city towards the coast is working farmland, so a stay here is chosen for the base it gives you. For upland camping the Bowland side north east is the better direction; Beacon Fell is the nearest point of it.

Camping on the western plain

Glamping puts you out on the coastal plain west of the city, where the ground is flat and open and Preston is a short drive away whenever you want it. The road frame is on the places to stay sheet.

Stanley Villa Farm is the only entry in this category that is not a building with rooms, and it sits on the same western side of the district as Bartle Hall. The flat agricultural land west of Preston is well suited to this kind of provision: level ground, quiet lanes, and enough distance from the city that the sky is dark at night.

What a stay out here involves

Everything about the position assumes a vehicle. The compensation is range: the Fylde coast is a short drive west, the city is a short drive east, and the lanes in between are flat enough to be genuinely good cycling, which is not true of the country south east of Preston. For anybody using the Guild Wheel as the reason for the trip, the western approach joins it without any climbing.

Nothing here is walkable to the city. Preston centre is a drive of five or six miles on minor roads and the A583.

What else is west of the centre

The western plain is flat, farmed and quiet, which is what a camping site needs and what makes the lanes here the best cycling in the district. The Guild Wheel's western arc has no real climbing in it, and the Lancaster Canal towpath reaches the city on this side through Haslam Park.

Beyond the plain is the Fylde and the coast; behind it, five or six miles east, the city. Bartle Hall is the other entry on this side.
