Live and Working in Preston

There is something for everyone in Preston...

Whether you want a prime spot in the city centre, a waterside setting, an ‘edge of town’ lifestyle or somewhere rural, the options are here.

Built on a history going back to Henry II granting the first charter in 1179, to the traditional cotton mill town receiving city status in 2002, Preston is a multi-cultural city, with a strong basis from its industrial past while celebrating more modern influences.

If you’re coming to Preston for work, studies, arts, shopping or leisure then Preston is ideally located on the West Coast mainline while the recently-listed Bus Station at the other end of the main thoroughfare is also convenient. If you’re driving, Preston is accessible via four motorways and several major A roads and there is a wide selection of car parks and several park ‘n’ ride services.

Preston has much to offer in terms of choice of accommodation from apartments to larger housing including affordable options. This is accompanied by good access to healthcare services of all types, good local transport links and a wide range of top class sports facilities.

There is plenty of choice to eat or drink from major high street stores, independent cafes to international cuisine and pubs and bars for a good night out or after work drinks. The relatively compact city centre offers a wide variety of shops and markets with plenty of nice spots to eat your lunch including Winckley Square, Avenham and Miller Parks and the Flag Market.

Nature’s never far off, take a stroll around leafy Avenham or Miller Parks or hit those pedals on the 21-mile Guild Wheel cycleway, or visit the nearby Brockholes nature reserve and Beacon Fell country park, or closer take a walk along the banks of the Ribble or Lancaster Canal.

And for the keen event goer, the city offers a varied events calendar taking place throughout the year with a mixed bag of exciting events to suit all interests. Amongst these are a number of staple annual events from the must see Lancashire Encounter to the vibrant Caribbean Carnival and Preston's traditional Egg Rolling at Avenham and Miller Park.
