Sat in the heart of Preston's city centre, Avenham & Miller Parks deliver a peaceful refuge from their urban surroundings. Both parks offer diverse and beautiful outdoor space and a tranquil setting on the banks of the River Ribble. With their convenient central location and six main entrance points, the parks are easily accessible by car, foot, bike and public transport.
The natural amphitheatre in Avenham Park makes the perfect spot for a picnic and to watch the world go by, with views overlooking the Japanese Rock Garden and the River Ribble. There's also the option to grab a bite to eat or a refreshment from the park's Pavilion Café. The café's serene setting by the riverside makes the ideal place to unwind and stock up on food for your adventures in the parks.
Miller Park also features many picturesque picnic spots and is brimming with historic points of interest. Just some of these points can be found on the Preston Statues Trail, alongside sights such as the Derby Walk, the Italianate Terrace and a listed fountain to gaze upon.
With Avenham Park being the official starting point of the Guild Wheel, both parks make a fantastic place for a leisurely cycle or something more challenging. Furthermore, the Ribble Way National Trail also follows the course of the river next to the parks.

Dogs in parks
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in Avenham & Miller Parks. Please keep dogs under control, take care when passing other visitors with dogs and clean up after them. Dogs should be kept on a lead when necessary and must not enter the children's play area, water fountain or pond.

Avenham & Miller Parks gained their first coveted Green Flag Award in 2008 and have retained the award ever since. The award is given to a park in recognition of health, safety, security, maintenance, sustainability, conservation, heritage, community involvement, marketing and management.
In 2013, English Heritage carried out a reassessment of the parks, resulting in upgrading their listed status to Grade II*. This status recognises the design and historical importance of the parks.
More recently, Avenham & Miller parks earned a Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence Award 2016.
Friends of Avenham & Miller Parks work in partnership with Preston City Council. The group helps with park related projects as well as contributing to the management decisions and helping to raise funding for improvements and facilities.

A 40-space car park for Avenham & Miller Parks can be found on South Meadow Lane, opposite The Continental Pub.
There are also a number of city centre car parks to choose from, these include disabled parking.
Please respect the surrounding residential areas of the parks by using a designated car park.
Avenham & Miller Parks feature a mix of well-maintained level paths and paths with inclines. There are also disabled toilets available on-site and easy access entrances into the park via the West Cliff and South Meadow Lane entrance points.
